Our visit in Newcastle
I get a week off from my work. My husband also arranged few days off from work so we can go for holidays! We started to planning to go for a few days trip and we chosen Newcastle. Lets go to Newcastle
Newcastle is located in North East England. Newcastle (on the north bank of the River Tyne) and Gateshead (on the south bank) have been transformed into a amazing visitor destination.NewcastleGateshead is a mix of the modern and historic, renowned for its excellent shopping and amazing nightlife. That is exactly what we were looking for!!! But NewcastleGateshead can offer a lot - explore the beautiful architecture including the ancient city walls and castle; we were planning to enjoy the stunning quayside with its waterfront bars and galleries; dine in one of the many superb restaurants and cafés; and don\'t miss the fantastic public art such as the Angel of the North. I founded with a year-long programmer of festivals and events there is always something going on. The plan was to visit NewcastleGateshead for a city break with a difference, or use it as a base for exploring the rest of North East England! Next time when we will plan a holiday in Scotland, we might stop off in NewcastleGateshead for a few days.We decided on the start we will see The Newcastle side of the Quayside contains a wealth of public artworks.
Some of the highlights of what can be found on Newcastle Quayside include: RELIEF SCULPTURE: Neil Talbot\'s 100\' of carvings on to a sandstone wall, depict well known sights on the river from the river mouth to approximately 30 miles upriver. The 17 images are of existing features - historic monuments, industrial features etc that relate to the river. RIVER GOD SCULPTURE: Andre Wallace\'s 35\' high steel column is topped with a bronze statue of a mythical river god. THE BLACKSMITHS\' NEEDLE: a 7.6 meter conical steel sculpture again with a maritime theme represented by mermaids, bells, shells and sea creatures from Alan Dawson. I am sure we will enjoy all of it to look at and take photographs.
Castle Keep one of the finest examples of a Norman Keep in the country. That was another beautiful thing to see in Newcastle.
In 1080 Robert Curthose son of William the Conqueror, built the first wooden fortification from which the city takes its name - the \'New Castle\'.
Today\'s Castle Keep (1168-78) was built during the reign of Henry II and overlies the earlier Roman fort of Pons Aelius (pons - Latin for bridge, Aelius - Family name of Emperor Hadrian who visited the site in 122AD). It is one of the finest examples of a Norman Keep in the country and is now a Grade I listed building. The roof of the Castle Keep boasts fantastic views of the Quayside, its bridges and the city centre, and its well worth climbing the 134 steps to the top! We will see how it will go!!
Next step was to see Centre for life and explore the fascinating story of Human Life by discovering Our Origins and how we evolved; see what life is like in Our World and what challenges we might face in Our Future. That is going to be so interesting!!
We will explore the stars or experience an immersive audiovisual film in The Dome, see live science demonstrations in the Life Theatre and enjoy the thrills of the Motion Ride and regular temporary exhibitions and special events. After my degree in Science I will be amazed to do that all!!! During evening in a local club we met Kirsten. She is probably the best Newcastle escort, so we have spend a night with her. Next day we might to start again from art places which are really good in Newcastle. BALTIC is a major international centre for contemporary visual art. This renovated flourmill is one of the biggest temporary art spaces in Europe with over 3,000sq m of art space, a cinema/lecture space and a library and archive for the study of contemporary art. BALTIC presents a dynamic and ambitious programmer of changing exhibitions, events and projects, offering something new with every visit. In addition to its four galleries, the building boasts three different food and drink spaces and a shop, making it a place to eat, drink and relax, as well as somewhere to discover new art. After all that I am sure we will stay there for lunch and talk about the Art!!
Lovely walk to Blackfriars is going to be next step after lunch in Newcastle city. Blackfriars is an oasis of calm just a minute from the hustle and bustle of the city centre of Newcastle. This former monastery, dating from the late 13th century and later used as a meeting place for the city\'s craft guilds, has now been renovated and is home to craft shops, an award winning restaurant (aptly named Blackfriars) and an outdoor meeting place. There\'s also a large grassed courtyard; a perfect place to relax. I always love craft shops. You can buy very nice things and I will have a something from Newcastle! If we will have time we might to go Discovery Museum. Discovery is one of the North East\'s most popular free museums and the place to find out about life on Tyneside. From the area\'s renowned maritime history to world-changing science and technology it has something for everyone. The gem of the collection is Turbinia, the world\'s first boat to be powered by a steam turbine engine. The museum is bursting with hands-on interactive, which makes it the perfect place to learn through play. Even an adults needs to be a children sometimes - it is going to be a chance???
After arts places, museums is a time for Live Entertainment.
Vibrant stage-shows, inspiring music from world-class performers and breathtaking dance and drama are available to entertain us.
With great venues like the The Sage Gateshead, Theatre Royal, City Hall, Dance City, Live Theatre, Northern Stage, Gulbenkian, the Metro Radio Arena and Gateshead International Stadium, complemented by a number of smaller venues such as the Head of Steam@the Cluny, the Little Theatre, Caedmon Hall, Jazz Cafe and the Newcastle Arts Centre there\'s always live shows to enjoy. I think we are going to choose the Sage Gateshead. It is attracts the best of every musical genre - classical, jazz, folk and more. The centre occupies one of the most dramatic urban sites in Europe, looking across the River Tyne to a vibrant and exciting cityscape. Take the time to enjoy a performance by our very own Northern Sinfonia - a chamber orchestra of international renown. For the evening is going to be perfect.
What about Live Performance-we both like so let\'s go to Theatre or to Dance Stage.
Theatre Royal is one of the most renowned theatres in the country, and in its 170 year history has seen some of the biggest names in dance, drama, music and comedy. The theatre presents over 370 performances per year and is the regional home of the Royal Shakespeare Company, the National Theatre, Opera North and Rambert Dance Company.
For more new and cutting-edge theatre, Northern Stage has opened a superb new building and The Journal Tyne Theatre, housed in a Grade 1 listed building, is another venue offering inspiring theatre.
Dance City is the National Dance Agency for the North East of England and welcomes all kinds of people with a passion for all kinds of dance. Dance City\'s pioneering £7.6m centre for dance has given the organization the perfect home from which to develop and drive dance forward as one of the best art forms of the 21st Century.
